Avenged Sevenfold just shared their first single since 2017’s The Stage, delivering the complicatedly simple "Mad Hatter" as part of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's soundtrack.

The almost full year since getting new music from the band is still sooner than their typical music release schedule, with an average of three to four years between albums. “Mad Hatter” is a groove-driven track with simple riffs that shift into a singing guitar line that accents vocals from the currently vocal-resting M Shadows.

The track features in a Call of Duty trailer and marks their continued work with the game, following the equally brooding COD songs “Carry On” and “Not Ready to Die.”

The song features on their upcoming EP Black Reign, a collection of all of their work for Call of Duty. The four-song EP is due September 21 and you can pre-save it here
