Foals Go In-Depth Into Their New Music with Megan Holiday

March 29, 2019

British rock band, Foals, recently released their fifth studio album, Part 1 Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost. Band members, Yannis Philippakis and Jimmy Smith, came by the KROQ studios and spoke with Megan Holiday to talk about their new music, their four-year music hiatus, and more.

They go in-depth into the meaning of their music, the juxtaposition of sounds, from the moodiness in ‘Exits’ to the upbeat dance feel of ‘Sunday.’ Lead singer, Yannis Philippakis said, “The music has felt really energetic and vital and [the> euphoric parts felt like it could kind of withstand some of the heavier lyrics here and there. And then you get a nice proportion of light and shade.”

During their music hiatus, bassist, Walter Gervers departed from the band, which shook things up for them. The band members chat about what that was like and how they personally and creatively dealt with it.

They recently released their song "Exits" and it's racked up over 2.4 millions views. Listen and watch below:
