Chris Cornell’s widow, Vicky Cornell, has given her first interview since her late husband’s passing last May.

Speaking with Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts, Vicky described the Soundgarden frontman’s state—and apparent relapse—leading up to his untimely death. But she also shares some wonderful memories of her husband, remembering him as “the greatest father.”

Watch the full, emotional interview below.

It was also announced today that Vicky has joined the Advisory Board at the Addiction Policy Forum, a national nonprofit which seeks to improve substance abuse policies.

On the announcement, Vicky says she’s learned from Chris’ passing that “addiction is a brain disease” that’s “preventable and treatable." She continues, "While I can't bring my husband back, I can help the millions of other families struggling with addiction and I hope we can prevent this horrific experience from happening to others."
