Linkin Park star Mike Shinoda had barely finished the encore of the opening night of his first-ever solo concert tour when he picked up the phone to call KROQ’s Kevin & Bean.

With that first show being in Hong Kong, China, the time difference had him phoning up the guys right before he was headed off to bed.

“It was good,” he shared about the show, which followed what Shinoda called “a huge scare” during soundcheck.

“I brought on a drummer and a keyboard-guitarist-backup-vocalist,” Shinoda explained about the band he’s assembled for the tour. “We’ve been rehearsing and trying to scramble to get them ready, and we had a soundcheck before the show tonight, and there was some kind of funky...they have different power supplies in Hong Kong than they do in the States. All our gear is U.S. power. We literally blew up three keyboards and some guitar gear before the show. I was pretty convinced we weren’t going to be able to play. We ended up being able to sort through it and fix everything and get it ready. It worked out fine.”

Shinoda promised that fans coming to the solo shows can expect “a little bit of everything” in the setlist, including Linkin Park and Fort Minor songs alongside his new solo music.

With Shinoda heading off to sleep after the Kevin & Bean interview, listeners were almost treated to the answer to the long-simmering question of what exactly the Linkin Park star wears to bed.

But after the morning show team went into great detail debating Shinoda’s sleepwear, he decided to keep the sought-after information to himself.

“It’s too much fun to let you guys guess. I own all of those things you guys mentioned,” he joked. “I own nudity, I do own a pair of footie pajamas, head to toe dinosaur PJs, so anything’s possible.”
