Every Thursday morning Jensen Karp brings our attention to something that we may not know about yet or something we may have overlooked in the past.

Now it's time to "Get Up On This."

This week Jensen introduces us to a relatively unknown Rock band, Slow Pulp. Slow Pulp is a 4 piece band out of Madison Wisconsin that have recently relocated to Chicago Illinois to be closer to the Midwestern music scene. Lead singer Emily Massey started taking guitar lessons after watching Jack Black in School of Rock. She was also mentored by her father who was also a musician. Along with Alex Leeds on bass, Teddy Matthews playing drums and Henry Stoehr also on guitar they have come together to create a very promising dream rock sound.

They released their first EP in 2016, it was called EP1 without Massey. When Massey joined the band in 2017 they released their second EP titled EP2. That is when things started click for them. People started going to their shows and their songs started popping up on blogs such as Pigeons And Planes and other websites without a publicist or sending their music out to anyone.

Usually Jensen gets us up on things that have somewhat of a following. With Slow Pulp you’re getting in on the ground floor. You’re finding out about them before the hipsters. With 431 followers on Twitter, 807 followers on Sound Cloud and 3,745 on Spotify (at the time of publishing) you’ll be able to say you knew about them before they were popular. They’ve already announced that they’ll be at South By Southwest, which is were a lot of cool new bands play. They’re already getting a lot of early buzz, so if you’re going to SXSW you should definitely check them out.

This is Steel Birds, and it is quickly becoming one of Jensen’s favorite songs.

This song is off EP2 it’s called At Home with real guitars with picks and shredding.
