The Fast Food Report with Jensen Karp

Jensen finds new fast food menu items and we decide whether to Eat It or Beat It

July 30, 2019

The Fast Food industry and Quick Service Restaurants are always evolving with companies and their kitchens constantly trying new things and testing recipes. They are looking to find new customers and bring them into their restaurants and hopefully earn new customers. Jensen describes these new items to us and we decide if we would try them, or not.

Just a few months away from Halloween, but Taco Bell is gearing up for it with a Vampire Steaked Fries. They are currently being tested in the Chicago market for a limited time. These fries seasoned fries topped with marinated steak, nacho cheese sauce, shredded cheddar cheese, pico de gallo, and new Vampire sauce. The new sauce is described as a “spicy-savory sauce with flavors of garlic and jalapeños.”  Here’s our take:

Allie thinks it sounds great so, Eat It!

Kevin will not only eat it but go back for seconds, so Eat It!

Bean likes spicy and is willing to try it so, Eat It!

McDonald’s restaurants in Thailand are now offering a new Italian dish, Chicken Lasagna Pies. The pies feature a crispy-fried pastry crust filled with “high quality” chicken meat, mushrooms, mozzarella cheese, and tomato sauce. You can find these in Thailand although Jensen wouldn’t recommend going because he didn’t have fun there. Here’s our take:

Kevin doesn’t trust that it’s chicken, so Beat It!

Allie thinks it sounds like a Chicken Parmesan wrapped in a pastry, so Eat It!

Bean doesn’t like the association at all, so Beat It!

Burger King is getting into the cross-promotion game with a Stranger Things Upside Down Whopper. It is pretty much just that… a Whopper served upside down. They haven’t touched the alignment or the ingredients; they just serve it upside down. The new Upside Down Whopper sandwich features exclusive packaging, but that’s it. Jensen suggests that they should’ve at least substituted Eggo’s for the buns. It's only available in 11 locations (Miami, Houston, Boston, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Dallas, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York), but if you live anywhere, just flip the Whopper upside down as you eat it and you have an Upside Down Whopper. Here’s our take:

Kevin loves Whoppers, and he doesn’t care that its upside down, so Eat It!

Allie thinks the marketing departments think they are so smart. She loves it, so Eat It!

Bean doesn’t reward this kind of stupidity, so Beat It!

From Thailand to Singapore we move to KFC that’s now offering Cereal Chicken. It’s the Hot & Crispy chicken and coated with crunchy Nestlé Nestum cereal that is wok-fried with butter, chili and curry leaves, and tosses it all in a special spice seasoning. Jensen likens it to a sweet cereal chicken. Here’s our take:

Bean is intrigued by this so, Eat It!

Kevin will also try it, so Eat It!

Allie will make it 3 for 3, so Eat It!

Kevin Loves this 90’s TV Show and now he can toast to their friendship with a coffee drink from Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. Fans will have a hard time deciding between the new Friends menu drinks; The Joey (Mango Cold Brew Tea), The Monica (Midnight Mocha Cold Brew), The Rachel (Matcha Latte), The Ross (Classic Flat White), The Chandler (Caramel Coconut Latte), and The Phoebe (Cookies and Cream Ice Blended). Here’s our take:

Allie will drink it all the way down, so Eat It!

Bean is not a fan of any of these fancy coffees, so Beat It!

Kevin is also an Eat It!
