The Fast Food Report With Jensen Karp

Jensen finds new fast food menu items and we decide whether to Eat It or Beat It?

July 12, 2019

The Fast Food industry and Quick Service Restaurants are always evolving and their kitchens are constantly trying new things and testing recipes. They are looking to find new customers and bring them into their restaurants. Jensen describes these new items to us and we decide if we would try them, or not.

The current trend in Pizza such as the cauliflower crust has people turning away from carbs but, Villa Italian Kitchen in New Jersey is doubling down on what they call, Just The Crust. It’s simply six pieces of just pizza crust served in a triangle to-go box. It sounds more like something a seagull would be picking at on the beach, than a snack. Jensen called them “sad breadsticks.”  Here’s our take:

Beer Mug thinks it sounds bland and terrible so, Beat It!

Allie’s allergic to dairy, but she loves pizza and pizza crust so, Eat It!

Bean thinks its big hat no cattle so, Beat It!

In Jakarta, Indonesia you can now purchase KFC Chicken Skin. Six locations are offering just the greasy salty skin from the Colonel’s Original Recipe chicken pieces in a bag for those looking for the quickest most efficient way to clog your arteries. You can get 12 pieces of chicken skin for 99 cents.  There are no current plans to bring this deal to the US, but a KFC representative did tell Business Insider, “It could show up elsewhere in the future.” Here’ our take:

Bean loves chicken skin, but not on its own so, Beat It!

Allie loves FKC, but wants the chicken with the skin so, Beat It!

Beer Mug loves the skin and wants all the skin in the world so, Eat It!

Every time you eat fast food, you’re sort of gambling. The odds that a meal you’re eating will make you sick within an hour are 35%. Now Swedish Burger King is taking those casino odds to the next level. They are now offering the 50 / 50 menu. Customers can order a Whopper or a crispy chicken sandwich from the 50 / 50 menu and you may receive a plant-based Rebel Whopper or a new plant-based Rebel Chicken King or the actual meat-based originals. You won’t know what you get because they are so sure that you’ll not be able to tell the difference between them with your taste buds. The only way you’ll find out is by using the new BK phone App to scan a barcode on the box. That’s how you’ll know what sandwich you actually had. Here’s our take:

Allie loves gambling and she loves burgers so, Eat It!

Beer Mug loves surprising people with plant-based meat, so Eat It!

Bean is a strict vegetarian, so Beat It!

Starbucks in the UK is exclusively offering Strawberry Donut Frappuccino. It consists of a blend of donut crumbles, milk and ice layered on a strawberry puree and topped with whipped cream and freeze-dried strawberry toppings. There are no plans to bring it to the US and will be available until September 4th. Here’s our take:

Bean loves this idea but is not a fan of strawberries, so Sink It!

Allie hates this idea, so Sink It!

Beer Mug Loves strawberries, donuts, and Frappuccino’s, so Drink It!

This Walmart exclusive is a Limited Edition Hostess Orange Crème Pop Twinkie. It’s a classic sponge cake with and orange crème filling like an Orangesicle wrapped in sweet bread. A 10 pack can be bought for $2.50. Here’s our take:

Beer Mug loves all Orange crème filled treats, so Eat It!

Allie is not interested in any of this at all, so Beat It!

Bean was convinced from the word Twinkie, so Eat It!

Jensen is a big fan of Outback Steakhouse and called the Bloomin’ Onion the “Crown Jewel of their menu.” He was thrilled to reveal a new Bloom-ified menu. It includes a Bloomin’ Fried Chicken. It’s a boneless chicken breast battered in Bloomin’ Onion seasoning, fried, then drizzled with bloom sauce. It comes with homestyle mashed potatoes and seasonal veggies too. Here’s our take:

Beer Mugs it ready to Bloom it, so Eat It!

Allie’s more than happy to Eat It, mate!

Bean is a vegetarian and this is not for him, so Beat It!
