INTERVIEW: Beck Talks New Album 'Hyperspace', Recording at Paisley Park

November 19, 2019

Beck dropped by the morning show to talk about the upcoming release of his 14th studio album Hyperspace, recording an EP at Prince's Paisley Park, and playing this year's KROQ Absolut Almost Acoustic Christmas.

Earlier this month, Beck surprise-dropped an EP titled The Paisley Park Sessions, in which the singer and his band got to record a trio of songs at Prince's hallowed Paisley Park studio.

"I think we were the first (artists) to record there since he passed," Beck said about the experience, elaborating, "They asked us to do some Prince songs...and we couldn't pick just one." The result was a medley of four Prince songs wrapped into one titled "The Paisley Experience".

On the topic of his 14th studio album Hyperspace, available this Friday November 22nd, Beck drew inspiration from the arcade game Asteroids, where a hyperspace button helps you disappear.

"There's times in life where you just want to hit that (hyperspace) button and for me, music is that kind of thing," Beck explained, adding, "Especially living in LA, you get in your car and you put on some music and you go somewhere else."

Beck is playing Night One of the KROQ Absolut Almost Acoustic Christmas along with Cage the Elephant, Jimmy Eat World, Young the Giant, Angels and Airwaves, and more. Limited tickets for Night One are still availble to purchase through Ticketmaster
