Mike Shinoda is the definition of KROQ Family.

It’s a connection that was more than apparent when he plopped down on the couch to kick it with KROQ joq Kat Corbett at this year’s Almost Acoustic Christmas show.

The two reminisced about the days when Linkin Park was the very first band on the AAC bill back in the year 2000, only for the band to blow up so big that that would turn around and headline the event just one year later in 2001.

Corbett recalled more recent history with memories of Shinoda’s surprise appearance at last year’s KROQ Weenie Roast, the moment when he launched the current solo campaign.

“I was at the point where I was learning how to do my solo show. Now I feel like I’ve gotten...I’ve had a lot of experience this year. I’ve had a lot of shows. Now it’s a much different show. I’m really excited for you guys to see it. There’s a lot of progression.”

Shinoda also opened up about his solo album, Post Traumatic, and the song “Make It Up Up As I Go,” which features K Flay. She would later join Shinoda onstage during his electric AAC set to reprise her part on the track that was originally slated to be part of Linkin Park’s One More Light full-length.
