Get Up On This With Jensen Karp: StockX

Every Thursday morning Jensen Karp gets us up on something new

March 21, 2019

Every Thursday morning Jensen Karp brings our attention to something that we may not know about yet or something we may have overlooked in the past.

Now it's time to "Get Up On This."

This week Jensen introduces us to a website and mobile App called StockX. It’s an online sneaker marketplace where you can buy and sell certified authentic sneakers with an easy to navigate interface. No knowledge of the shoe game is needed, just a desire to buy, or sell, sneakers.

StockX acts as a secondary market for sneakers and a middle man for buyers and sellers. It was founded in 2015 by Josh Luber and Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert. It helps people avoid the difficulties and shady pitfalls of using sites like Craigslist or eBay as a marketplace. StockX has a staff of about 500 employees and shoe experts that authenticate and 100% guarantee every single pair of shoes that are bought and sold on their site. StockX virtually eliminates having to worry about scammers and fakes. The seller pays a fee of about 8% to 9.5% to StockX, while the buyer does not pay any fees. StockX doubles as a sort of stock market for shoes, where you can track the aftermarket value, what they are selling for and how many people are buying them. Currently, $2 million dollars are currently traded on this website daily.

Once something sells, the seller has to ship the items to StockX within 2 days. StockX then authenticates the items and puts a little green tag on it once deemed real. If the items are found to be fake, they do not get authenticated or sold. Jensen actually received an email stating, “We are not going to send you the shoes, we’re giving you your money back” in one instance.

StockX is the easiest way to buy and sell shoes, watches, and handbags. They’re opening up drop off locations in London, New York, and Los Angeles, so if you sell stuff, you can drop it off at any of those locations and get instantly paid.
