'American Pie' Celebrates the Film’s 20th Anniversary with Epic Selfie

July 10, 2019

Want to feel really old? American Pie came out 20 years ago!

In honor of the 1999 film’s two decade anniversary members of the ensemble cast reunited in an epic group selfie, according to People.

“Happy 20th American Pie! #reunited,” actress Alyson Hannigan, who played Michele Fletcher, posted on her Instagram.

Also included in the reunion fun were Jason Biggs (Jim Levenstein), Tara Reid (Vicky Lathum), Chris Klein (Chris “Oz” Ostreicher), Natasha Lyonne (Jessica), Seann William Scott (Stifler) and Eddie Kaye Thomas (Paul Finch).

The popular film about losing your virginity before high school graduation helped launched the careers of its young cast when it was released on July 9th, 1999.

It wound up grossing over $132 billion at the North American box office and spawned three sequels, including "American Pie 2" in 2001, "American Wedding" in 2003 and "American Reunion" in 2012.

One of the franchise’s most quoted lines is when band geek Michele Fletcher routinely says, “that one time at a band camp.”

The line, which has a sexually explicit punchline, is one that still haunts Hannigan to this day.

“Yeah, they still do that 20 years later,” the 45-year-old actress told Entertainment Tonight. “Which was fine before I had children, but now I’d really like them to just be like, oh I recognize you, wink wink. Luckily they don’t finish the sentence, but I stand there terrified that they will.”

In addition, to the four big screen films in the franchise , there are four direct-to-DVD spin-off films including American Pie PresentsBand Camp (2005), The Naked Mile (2006), Beta House (2007), and The Book of Love (2009).
