Karen O Covers Willie Nelson For Chipotle, Farm Aid Relief

A few weeks ago, the man who does bogart that joint (my friend), Willie Nelson, covered Coldplay’s “The Scientist”…for Chipotle and Farm Aid which included a weird CGI-from-1993 short film. That was pretty random, right?

Yeah Yeah Yeah’s frontwoman Karen O returns the favor to Nelson and keeps the randomness going in Chipotle/Farm Aid’s latest short film and cover song effort. O gives Nelson’s classic country duet with Waylon Jennings, “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys”, a stark, ambient rendition — a perfect compliment to her Led Zepplin “Immigrant Song” cover for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo movie trailer.

“…Grow Up To Be Cowboys” soundtracks the short film Abandoned, directed by David Altobelli. It starts out all “Levi’s American Jeans” — full of American nostagia and kids-will-be-kids smashing of plates and exploring things. It takes a remorseful turn when the kids find out the farm hasn’t been abandoned by choice.

Chipoltle is hooking up with Farm Aid to support small, local farms. These short films/cover songs are to help raise support for the burrito king’s annual Boorito, which benefits family farmers. Check out the video below, and download the MP3:
