Corey Taylor is of course known as the vocalist of both Slipknot and Stone Sour.  But now you can add “author” to his list of jobs with the release of his new book: Seven Deadly Sins: Settling the Argument Between Born Bad and Damaged Good.  This is not an autobiography, but rather a philosophical look at those ”seven deadly sins”: lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, and pride. 

Corey took some time this morning to talk to Kevin and Bean, and discuss his idea that sins are human traits.

Corey has actually considered writing a book for a long time, but he doesn’t think it is quite time yet for an autobiography.  Instead, he fleshed out the idea for his book after a conversation with his agent, .  He wanted to take the devil’s advocate standpoint on the thought of sin and explain that people feel guilty about even thinking about them, when they should just worry about their actions.  For example, Corey writes that it is perfectly to ok to think lustful thoughts, but it would be your responsibility to control your actions. 

Corey also includes some stories about his life, and experience in the music industry to drive home his point.  Now a husband and father, his main focus in on “just trying to be a good person”, rather than getting swept up in an industry built on sensationalizing the bad.

It’s been almost one year since the tragic loss of Paul Gray, former bass player for Slipknot. Although it seems in recent interviews that Corey and the rest of the band aren’t really ready to move on, the show must go on.

They’ve decided instead of searching and auditioning for a bassist to fill in for their summer tour, they’re keeping it in the family (so to speak) and bringing back an old friend.

Corey and the rest of the band have decided to call on the talents of Donnie Steele, who was for a short time one of the original guitarist and a co-founder for the band in 1995. He had originally quit the band because of this religious beliefs, but played on their first demo album, Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat.

In a statement released by the band the members said, “Donnie was in the band at the very beginning, and rather than get an outsider, we thought it would be a fitting tribute to Paul to play with someone from within the family. Donnie was great friends with Paul and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate his memory than with someone who was there with us at the very beginning. The eight of us are looking forward to being onstage again and honoring Paul’s legacy with our families in Europe and Brazil this summer.”

The band has a series of shows this coming summer, and maybe after that they will be heading into the studio to record some new music.

Slipknot lead vocalist Corey Taylor alluded to the fact that he could be Velvet Revolver‘s new frontman. The spot has been vacant since vocalist Scott Weiland quit the group in 2008 and rumors have been circulating ever since.

When Taylor was asked about the claims regarding his choice to join Velvet Revolver he refused to confirm or deny anything. “To be continued!” he added, leaving us hanging in wait. The band actually said they have found their new lead singer at the end of last year but they wouldn’t spill the beans on who it is.  Two potential candidates that auditioned included Scars On Broadway singer Frankie Perez and Spacehog frontman Royston Langdon.

In other news, Taylor confirmed that he has written his first book “The Seven Deadly Sins” is due for release in the US on July 12.

When Taylor was asked to expand upon the details of his book he said, “It’s about me basically saying they’re not sins, they’re things we’re born with, things that we deal with and things that in the long run help us to be better people. “ So it's me kind of taking the piss out of the whole sin thing.
” So it’s me kind of taking the piss out of the whole sin thing, but also balancing it with stories from growing up, from being on the road and how I handled these ‘deadly sins’ and hopefully came out on the other side as a better person.”

XM@$ and today, out of the blue, a new Christmas song from Coldplay arrived!

The lads are no strangers to seasonal songs, having previously covered the Pretenders‘ classic 2000 Miles and Judy Garland‘s Have Yourself A Very Merry Christmas.

Their new song appears to be an original new Coldplay song called Christmas Lights and the girls will swoon over this one.

Capping off what has been quite a downer year for the Slipknot nation, Corey Taylor is releasing a humorous Christmas track poking fun at all the Scrooges in the world.

The appropriately festive song titled “XM@$,” was written by Taylor four years ago on his day off, and was recently rediscovered by his manager just in time for a Christmas release.  The playfully vulgar single will be available for digital download via iTunes, Amazon, and every other leading digital retailer December 12th, but you can feast on it after the drop.

Says Taylor, “I wrote this song in my kitchen one winter, listening to people bitch about the holidays. Personally, I love the holidays, but they seem to bring on severe stress in most people.  So, I wrote this in honour of crotchety, drunken bastards who don’t know the difference between a yuletide and a toolshed.  Plus, I think it’s funny. ”

For every download of “XM@$” Taylor has generously decided to donate all proceeds to Teenage Cancer Trust.

Now is the time to bust out the rum and eggnog.

There’s no bigger female rock star than Gwen Stefani, and her style is one that never goes unrecognized. No Doubt‘s lead singer has changed so much over the years from the old school brightly colored hair, solo Harajuku girl, and now the classic punk rock chick. But, please note if you are going to pull this look off hit the gym now! Or, else use lots of bronzer to draw on a six-pack.

If you’re not down for the sexy look, go for the more comical. This next female rocker can be done as an individual or with a fellow girlfriend.  And her name is Courtney Love. Grab a friend and one of you can be Courtney past and Courtney present. Or if you would like to go solo split the two down the middle. She is definitely crazy enough for you to pull off this look.

However, you may be a girl who doesn’t have that many girlfriends, and that’s OK. For this situation grab four of your closest guy friends and become the all so amazing Paramore.  Now, the best way to look like the punk pixy Hayley Williams is  to dye your hair, but if you don’t have the gonads just grab a wig.

Some of you may be into the (CCC) couples coordinated costume. If so, then The White Stripes are for you. This dark hair and pale skinned duo is very easy to imitate. Just stick with the color code of red, white, and black and embrace the role of Meg and Jack White.

Now, for those wild and crazy boys who are willing to bare it all then Blink-182 is for you. Get a couple of beers, a sharpie, and  go to town. Create your own tattoos, but try to get some of the major ones (especially if your Travis Barker).

Another  very recognizable trio is Green Day. Billie, Mike, and Tre definitely have their own unique individual styles that you and your friends could pull off. Not to mention you could easily rock their hairdos even after the 31st.

For our more creative listeners out their who are willing to spend some time and money on their costume you should totally be Slipknot!!!!Not only are these mofo’s scary as hell, but with a group of you rolling into a party dressed like that I’m sure it could be a potential conversation starter with the ladies. I know I would be interested.

Here at KROQ we get a TON of chicks calling in for My Chemical Romance. So if you really want to get the ladies all in a tizzy then this is the band to be. So you can run and tell that homeboy.

Now, this may seem a bit obvious to put this person on the list but it is  necessary I assure you. Marilyn Manson has to be one of the BEST people to dress up as for Halloween. Only a real man with enough self-esteem and confidence can put on a shit load of make-up and walk around like a hot tranny mess.

Last but not least, has to be someone who I consider to be the most badass mother f***er in the world of horror. The man and King of fright himself Rob Zombie has to be one of the best people to dress up as on the spookiest night of the year. So do the man right dammit!

Slipknot’s frontman Corey Taylor, aka #8, recently spoke about the future of the band and the impact Gray’s death had on them. 

“ Paul was the glue and the orchestrator...
” Corey Taylor “It’s kind of a gray area right now,” Taylor tells FMQB host Jim Florentine. “Everybody is still feeling it. It’s too soon to tell. I’m very conflicted about whether or not I want to do anything with Slipknot, because to me, Paul was such an integral part of the band. He was the whole reason that the band was the way it was… Paul was the glue and the orchestrator behind some of the best music we ever wrote. He was the soul of the band.” 

“I don’t want to make any statements that I’ll look like a fool in retrospect, but to me, right now, it just doesn’t make sense,” says Taylor. “Until it does, that’s the way it stays for me. That’s why I’ve been saying it’s too soon to tell… you never know.”

Dealing with the loss of a band member is one thing, but if that member is close enough to labeled a “brother,” that’s a whole other beast entirely.

It’s been 2 months since Slipknot bassist Paul Gray passed away in his Iowa hotel room.  Taylor has kept comments about the tragic loss to a minimum, saying it’s “too soon” to talk about future plans for the band.

Video of an acoustic version of “Snuff” has surfaced, with an emotional Taylor pouring his soul into a performance dedicated to his lost mate.

Stone Sour, the alternative-metal band fronted by Slipknot singer Corey Taylor, is preparing to release their first album in four years. The album, Audio Secrecy, will hit stores September 7, but when it came to the new music, Taylor was unsure as to how fans would react.

Late last week Stone Sour’s new song ‘Mission Statement’ was downloaded over 50,000 times for free during a special 48-hour period via the band’s website. In regards to the new song Taylor says, “That’s a great anthem. It’s got a little bit of the heavy but also is melodic as hell.”

“I’m just sort of blown away and ecstatic,” Taylor says. “There’s a lot of buzz and people are really stoked. This album is not only better than the first two Stone Sour albums combined, to me it’s the most well-rounded and diverse album I’ve ever been able to make. The music is just so visceral, and ‘Mission Statement’ is a perfect example of where it’s at.”

Since Slipknot’s style is more aggressive, Stone Sour provides Taylor with more exploration and creative expression. “ We're not afraid to take chances and do our own thing.
” Corey Taylor “There aren’t those boundaries or locks or chains. I think that’s what has kept us moving, right out of the gate that we’re not afraid to take chances and do our own thing,” Taylor says.

When asked about the recent death of Slipknot bassist Paul Gray, Taylor declined to comment directly but did remark, “Too soon to say right now” in regards to Slipknot’s future.
