“F**k you I won’t do what you tell me.” Except that part about not starting fires at the Coliseum. Apparently, then, we have to do what they tell us.

Rise Against. Muse. Rage. Saturday night the bands went off. All three bands were fantastic. To avoid a 90,000 person mosh pit they split up the floor into 9 areas. Each of the 9 had a pit, but it worked perfectly to make sure things didn’t get out of control. And if you were planning on committing a crime, this past Saturday night was your window of opportunity as ALL cops from within a hundred mile radius were there, standing by, waiting for…whatever.

Then, after the show, driving around lost near the Coliseum was not so fantastic. That part of town, which closely resembles Afghanistan, just before we attacked, is a little sketchy. After a lovely 45 minute tour of where all of L.A. throws it’s trash, we made it safely home.

Arguably one of the most anticipated concerts of the year takes place this Saturday at the LA Coliseum! With a lineup of Rage Against the Machine, Muse, Rise Against, and more, how can you not look forward to LA Rising?

The Kevin & Bean show had the pleasure of chatting with Dom Howard from Muse about the upcoming show here in LA, and the other huge gigs they’ve been playing worldwide.

Being such an international success, you would think that Muse would only do headlining gigs. Then there’s a band like U2 that takes them on as an opener in South America. Dom joked that it was just to steal their fans. In all honesty though, they’d only played South America once before. Being such a big band, you’d think they’d have toured there extensively already.

For as much as so many of us like Muse, and are always so thrilled to hear new material, it seems like forever since we’ve heard something new, but Dom feels like they’ve been non-stop for about the last ten years. Looking back, they pretty much have! Do these guys ever take time off? Granted, Matt Bellamy recently took a breather to welcome the birth of his son (Bingham “Bing” Hawn Bellamy) with fiance, Kate Hudson.

We last saw Muse in Los Angeles back in September at the Staples Center, where there were minor technically difficulties as the show opened. These can be blamed on Kevin’s attendance. The big hangings that concealed the band until they started playing were supposed to fall to open the show. Bassist, Chris Wolstenholme’s didn’t. Stuff always seems to go wrong at big concerts when our own Kevin Ryder is there. Maybe we should just ban him from LA Rising. We can’t risk perfection at that show now, can we?

Muse got involved with LA Rising simply because Rage Against the Machine asked them. That’s simple enough. Rage says jump and you say “how high?” Now all of us, including Dom are hoping for new RATM music as a part of their set.

Another odd thing mentioned lately by Muse was that Matt wanted to record in space. Dom responded to that by confirming that it would be a really cool feat. They’ve “kind of approached [Richard] Branson” (know for his Virgin Group of companies, including Virgin Atlantic airlines) about the possibilities. As soon as they see that it’s all tested, safe and cool, they’d love to try to play or record in space. He’s not sure playing the drums up there would be physically possible, but you never know til you try, right?

When can we expect new music from Muse? They plan on properly recording in the Fall, and get the next album out sometime next year. If the meantime, catch them at LA Rising this weekend, or out in Chicago at Lollapalooza the following week.

For those who can’t wait for L.A. Rising to commence July 30 at the Coliseum, the Rage Against the Machine-curated festival is rolling out an exclusive look behind the scenes via their Guerrilla Videos, as bands get ready to play for 50,000+ fans in one of Los Angeles’ most iconic venues.

In the second installment, Zach and Tim of Rise Against give a well-spoken and insightful interview — from their influences (including Rage Against the Machine) to the political and social causes they support.

If you have eight minutes today, this interview is well worth your time. Rise Against certainly seemed calm and collected for “one of the biggest shows we’ve ever played. Period.”

Judging from the interview, Rise Against seems to be in a good place. They know why they play the music they do and who they are playing for when writing and performing. It certainly seems like a natural fit to have them play on the same, epic bill as Rage Against the Machine and Muse.

Rise Against are impressing me more and more with each new song that is being released off their upcoming album Endgame. The latest, titled “Satellite,” is featured in the band’s fifth and final webisode which takes a look into the studio with the band.

The video is pretty cool, but the song is even better. Seems like Rise Against are going back to their harder roots, and I’m anxious to see what the rest of the album is going to be like.

Rise Against – Help Is On The Way

Rise Against rules, and their new forthcoming album Endgame is one of the most anticipated punk albums this year. The first single from Endgame, called “Help Is On The Way,” is awesome, and now the band have released a second song for us to enjoy.

“Architects” sounds like good ol’ fashioned Rise Against from beginning to end, and all I can say is that I’m stoked on what the rest of the album is going to sound like.
