If you’ve been listening to Rodney on the Roq, you may have heard him play the newest single from Bayside called “Sick, Sick, Sick.” Bayside formed in Queens, New York and have been around for quite a while now,  in fact, they’ve been supporting A Day To Remember on their tour.

“Sick, Sick, Sick” is the newest song off their upcoming fifth album titled Killing Time which will be released on February 22. The album is being produced by Gil Norton who has also produced albums for Foo Fighters and Jimmy Eat World to name a couple. The band has just released the new video for the  song, it features live footage of the band performing before an intense audience.

I saw the band perform live and I got a chance to meet them a long time ago when they were touring with Anberlin, Meg & Dia, and Jonzetta. They’re a fantastic group of guys and they sound great live. These guys have persevered through a lot, back in 2005 they lost their drummer John Holohan to a van accident when they hit a patch of ice while they were driving through Wyoming to their next show.

The band released an album titled Acoustic following the accident which featured a tribute to Holohan. The band looks to be touring overseas until about March, so you can expect to some dates in the Los Angeles area soon. In the mean time, enjoy the new video for “Sick, Sick, Sick.”

Night 1 of KROQ’s 21st Annual Almost Acoustic Christmas was full of surprises. Sort of like finding Mike Ness of Social Distortion up onstage watching Bad Religion perform.

As Switchfoot ended, the stage rotated around and the members of Anberlin immediately had the crowd rocking!

Anberlin singer Stephan Christian instantly had the crowd going wild the second the stage turned and exposed the Florida-natives.

With their new album out, Dark Is The Way, Light Is A Place, they too had a good blend of old tunes and new material. I instantly found myself singing along to songs like “Closer,” which was a personal favorite off the album.

They played their current hit “Impossible,” which has been part of the KROQ most-played list since it was first debuted. They truly showed why they are such a popular band, especially among their peers.

Their last song, which went out to KROQ, was their chart-topping single “Feel Good Drag,” the perfect way to end off their amazing set.

Florida-natives Anberlin followed up Switchfoot with a quick interview with The Kevin & Bean Show.

The guys chatted about everything from getting ready to perform tonight to their new album Dark Is The Way, Light Is A Place, which came out a few months ago and featured their single “Impossible.”

They talked about what it was like working with a new producer (who actually sought them out) and the craziness that has followed since the release of their album.

While most people know of Anberlin as a relatively new band on their radar, their roots can be traced back to the late 90′s when they were once known as SaGoh 24/7. Anberlin started as just a mere side project for some of the members, and the rest is history.

They’ve fought through being labeled as a Christian band (although they don’t quite consider themselves one) and a few lineup changes, but Anberlin seem to be at their peak musically. Their latest release, Dark Is the Way, Light Is a Place, is further proof that these guys are a force to be reckoned with. Any doubts you may have about this band will be put aside after seeing these guys on Night 1 of the 21st Annual Almost Acoustic Christmas, I promise.

Singer Stephen Christian and bassist Deon Rexroat got together in the late 90′s to form a band called SaGoh 24/7 (SaGoh = Servants After God’s Own Heart), and eventually added on Joseph Milligan (guitar) and Sean Hutson (drums) to complete the first lineup. They released two albums as SaGoh, Servants After God’s Own Heart in ’99 and Then I Corrupt Youth in 2001. Sales weren’t too great, so Hutson left the band to pursue family matters, with Nathan Young joining the band to fill in on drums.

The band then began working on a side project, which would be the beginning of Anberlin, and decided to record a 5 song demo to help launch themselves. Through the internet, the band developed an early fanbase and garnered the attention of labels all over. After seeking advice from friends in Underoath, Anberlin then signed to Tooth & Nail Records.

Anberlin’s first official album, called Blueprints For The Black Market, was released in 2003 and sold roughly 60,000 copies. It was around this time that guitarist Joey Bruce was kicked out of the band, who according to Christian, “was all about sex and drugs.” Nathan Strayer became the new rhythm guitarist at this point, leading into the recording of their second album, Never Take Friendship Personal, which was released in 2005.

Their third album, Cities, was released in the beginning of 2007 and sold 34,000 copies in it’s first week. Right before the release of the album, Strayer left the band and was replaced by current member Christian McAlhaney, who was previously in the band Acceptance. Later that year, the band released a compilation album called Lost Songs.

The band left Tooth & Nail Records in 2007 and signed with Universal Republic Records. They released their first major-label debut on September 30th, 2008, titled New Surrender. This album contained their #1 song “Feel Good Drag,” which was actually a re-recorded version of the original (which was on the album Never Take Friendship Personal). “Feel Good Drag” was 29 weeks on Billboard’s Alternative Songs chart before it became #1, marking the longest rise to the top since the list was created in 1988. Since then, Phoenix‘s “1901″ and Neon Trees‘ “Animal” have both toppled that record.

In March 2010, the band entered the studio again to begin recording their new album, titled Dark Is The Way, Light Is A Place. The album was released September 21st, and it’s first single “Impossible” has been doing really well. Listen to the full album stream below and get stoked.

After three albums on the ultra-cool indie label Tooth & Nail, Anberlin released New Surrender through the Universal Music Group in September of 2008. The re-recorded, re-born “Feel Good Drag” set the stage for the band to break to a much wider audience.

The new album Dark Is The Way, Light Is A Place is killer, and is led off by the highly infectious rock-pop hit ”Impossible.” Last.fm Discover was lucky to grab the band for a few hours during a recent NYC trip for a performance and sit-down interview. We found out after talking to Stephen, Joe, and Christian that “Impossible” almost didn’t make it onto the album! Without a doubt, this album is their best to date.

I don’t know about you, but deciding the fate of someones next tattoo is rather appealing. The closest I got to this was tattooing a cupcake on my boyfriend. Although it was the first tattoo I’ve ever administered, I tend to believe it was a masterpiece. Sadly, you don’t actually get to tattoo Anberlin but they are letting their fans pick their next tattoo.

I say, we should shoot for a butterfly or a tramp stamp.

Joey and Christian of Anberlin are sacrificing their bodies all for the sake of entertainment. Some suggested themes are Orthodox Iconography, Gaelic Art or Luck of the Irish. I don’t really know what any of those are so let’s stick to butterflies, they’re simple and everyone knows what they are.

It blows that I just found out about this and Phase 1 is already over, but you have until October 27, 2010 to vote on your favorite tattoo until it goes to judging. You can check out the top picks so far here and good thing is that you can vote once every day.
