While I don’t know much about the band Metric, I can say that I do know a lot about AFI. When I stumbled across this the other day, I knew I had to share it with the KROQ fans.

Jade Puget, guitarist for AFI, has released a few remixes of his own – including this one for Metric’s song “Gold Guns Girls.” Give his track, called “Gold and Guns,” a listen after the jump and let us know what you think about it.

Green Day‘s album-turned-Broadway musical, American Idiot, has seen its share of famous faces as part of the cast recently with both Melissa Etheridge and Billie Joe Armstrong himself starring as the role of St. Jimmy.

Now, another famous rocker will step into those shoes for a limited run – AFI‘s Davey Havok!

Following an off-Broadway run, the Broadway production of American Idiot officially opened April 20, 2010 at the St. James Theatre. The plot surrounds a group of angry youths fed up with with American suburbia. The supporting character, St. Jimmy, is basically an alter-ago of Johnny, the show’s main character, currently played by John Gallagher Jr.

St. Jimmy gives Johnny everything he’s ever wanted, whether good or bad, and eventually causes him to re-evaluate his life.
Davey Havok will step into the role of St. Jimmy beginning March 1, 2011, for a limited two week run, following Melissa Etheridge’s week-long run, and Billie Joe’s 50 performance run in the same role. (Also joining the cast at this time, in the role of Will, is American Idol season 1 runner-up, Justin Guarini, but we won’t talk about that.) If anyone’s making a trip out there for this show, I will be forever jealous!

What the f***ety f**k f**k?

A friend of mine posted a YouTube video of Maroon 5 covering Nine Inch Nails‘ “Closer” on his Facebook page and it left me, well, speechless. You have to have some Olympic sized balls to touch Nine Inch Nails. Only a very rare few can get away with it and I’m not quite sure Maroon 5 falls under that category.

I have no idea how old this is, but I dare not voice my opinion on this one. I rather have all of you listen to it and then divulge your thoughts, which, I cannot wait to read.

I really have nothing to say on this matter. On the one hand, who can blame a band for loving this song and wanting to put their own spin on it? It is one bad ass song.

On the other hand, what were they thinking????????????????

Winners Took A Bus To SD, Met AFI & Had A Private Green Day Soundcheck

Yesterday, a few of the KROQ promo guys and myself headed down to Fullerton where we met up at a dumpy park and ride with the winners of the KROQ Double Trouble Contest.

After getting everyone on board the bus and explaining the rules (which were simple…no smoking or #2′s), we began our journey to San Diego where we were to have a private meet and greet with A.F.I., as well as an exclusive Green Day soundcheck listening party!

I was along for the ride to document the trip, and you can hear all about it after the jump. Take a look at the photos too, you can see what it’s like to be a KROQ winner and maybe someday you’ll be the person in them meeting your favorite bands too!

The only convenient thing about our meeting spot in Fullerton was the 7-Eleven across the street, who’s business skyrocketed when we told our winners we wouldn’t be providing alcohol. Seemingly EVERY person ran over to grab some cold ones for the ride down and get the day started off right.  (If our attorneys are reading this, I’m totally just kidding…)

The cool thing about KROQ listeners is the ability for them to mesh almost right off the bat. Get a few drinks in their system and everyone instantly becomes best friends for the day. We had some great conversations with some cool people and it made the drive down there feel like it only took 30 minutes.

Once we got down to Cricket Wireless, we were escorted into a backstage area where A.F.I. was waiting for us at a table. I’ve been a huge fan of theirs my entire life, so it was great to see the guys acting super chill with everyone they met. They shook every person’s hand and signed stuff for everybody, then got up and took pictures with everyone also. They were very gracious of all the support and kind words our fans had for them.

After our meet and greet with A.F.I., we were next walked into the venue just as Green Day was beginning their soundcheck. The great part about soundchecks is that the band is way looser than they are during the show, and aren’t afraid to make mistakes or have a little fun. Midway through a song, Billy Joe hopped down from the stage and ran a lap around the entire seating area, singing every word on key while he ran up and down stairs and through aisles, then right by our small group of screaming fans.

The bummer part of the day was after the soundcheck when Tre Cool threw his drum sticks out towards us, one of our fans yelled for another stick. All of a sudden, a security guard comes out of nowhere and starts giving him a little attitude. Some words were exchanged, and next thing we know he’s demanding that our guy gets kicked out for the rest of the night. I’m not sure exactly how it all went down or what was said, but it sucked because we had to make one of our winners sit on a bus while the rest of us enjoyed the show. There are times to stick up for yourself and times to just bite your tongue and sit back and let things unfold, it was just unfortunate that our guy chose to open his mouth at the wrong time to the wrong person.

We went back and chilled around the bus until it was time to start heading in. As soon as everyone in our group was cleared off the bus and inside the venue, the promo guys and I headed in and took our seats amidst the thousands of people going nuts. Being an A.F.I. fan, it was hard to cope with them only playing a 40 minute set in comparison to Green Day’s 3 hour set, but like Lightning said, Green Day exceeded all expectations and put on one hell of a show.

As the show wrapped up, everyone headed back to bus and knocked out almost immediately. I was half-expecting most of the people to want to stay up and party on the way back, but Green Day’s performance was so long and good that it literally wore people out (that’s what she said). We got back to Fullerton pretty late, and then ventured the remaining way back to LA. Started the day at 8am, in bed by 3am… not a bad work day if you ask me!

Musicals have never been able to tickle my fancy but attending Green Day‘s ‘American Idiot’ theatrical version has peaked my interest. Fellow phone – op, Kristin posted in March about the band’s musical, and a few nights ago they appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to discuss just that.

The musical premieres April 20 at Broadway’s St. James Theatre and features music and lyrics from Green Day’s 2004 concept record, American Idiot. Lead singer Billy Joe Armstrong told Fallon, “It was such a big crazy idea, but that’s what you’re supposed to do when you’re in a band.”

Even actor Tom Hanks has reportedly expressed interest in taking the musical to the big screen.

After the musical launches, Green Day will head to Europe for festival gigs and other shows through early July before heading back to the States in August for a slew of dates with fellow NorCal rockers AFI that includes a stop at Chicago music fest Lollapalooza.
