All this election talk buggin’ you to no end? Well, we dug deep for this KROQ classic – something you may well hear Jeddum Fishum play over on KROQ of the 80′s here on the website.Watch the video here.

’tis Mr. Brian ‘Stray Cat’ Setzer’s birfday and to celebrate, we be swingin’.

Much like K & B’s Swingin’ Sack many Christmases ago, Brian played our Acoustic Christmas at the height of the new swing era, the show that was appropriately enough at the Shrine Auditorium (where it looked for a bit like we might have the upper balcony landing on the people in the cheap seats below as everyone was jumpin’, jivin’ and wailin’).

Besides Mr. Setzer, today’s KROQ flashbacks will also walk you through some of the other monster hits of the day (courtesy of Mr. Happy Sperm from our days at the Palace in Hollywood). His list includes “Zoot Suit Riot” from Cherry Poppin’ Daddies, “Zip Gun Bop” from Royal Crown Revue and “Go Daddy-O” from Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.

You feel lucky, punk? Good – ’cause Jack is back. Jack?

Hard to pick just one Black Flag song for the Punk Roq Korner feature, in fact there will probably be many more, but let’s start with this one – “I’ve Heard It Before”. I could always relate to these lyrics and the way Dez scraped the vocals out of the bottom of his throat. But, enough of my diatribe. . . I’ll let the lyrics and the song speak for themselves.Watch the video here.

This demotivational poster was making the rounds on the series of tubes recently and it seems like a good excuse to throw you this all time favorite KROQ once again (despite having just done so a couple of months ago – a rare repeat here today).Watch the video here.

Do you have every single song that you have in your MUSIC folder actually on your various devices? Like, I have a few giant playlists with different stuff on my phone and on my ‘Pod and wet snot – SORRY! I meant ‘what not’, but a few songs here and there slip through the cracks and don’t appear anywhere except on the master list on the computer at home.

Like this one – til the other day. Now, it’s blasting me car nice n’ loudly since, as pointed out here yesterday, I likes me girl rock singers. A LOT.

Which brings me to your bonus song today – it’s something of a fishing story. There’s sooooo much great new music out there, it may be hard to keep up with it all unless you’re paying strict attention.

Sleigh Bells who are playing the Fox Theater in Pamona tonight are a great example. Sounding like a new century version of KROQ favorites The Go-Go’s (with Joan Jett, Voice of the Beehive meets M.I.A. and hanging out with The Gossip for a bit) Sleigh Bells have found an unique sound that needs to be heard more.Watch the videos here.

Ever since this song first blasted it’s way into my life in 1990 it’s one I never skip and always turn up.

While Sonic Youth was recording GOO, Public Enemy was across the hall creating FEAR OF A BLACK PLANET (hence the cameo in this song and video), or so the story goes.

What kind of energy must have been boiling in that building? It clearly got captured in this song – arguably in the Top 5 altrock songs ever (and I’d have to say it’s in the Top 25 rock songs EVER).

So, what are you gonna do for us girls, huh?Watch the video here

Anyone get you for April Fools yesterday? Maybe Tool’s Maynard showed up at your door with some pig friends and a bottle of Merkin wine?

This one hasn’t spun on KROQ in many a moon, but it and the video for it have aged well – like a great bottle of red.watch the video here

My pal Jack, who’s been kind enough to hook us up with some of his favorite classic punk songs here for the past several Fridays is pissed off (rare for punkers, yeah?).  Someone here has been…well, I’ll let him tell you.  Jack?

“Riot” is a great example of the timelessness of Jello’s lyrics.  This song was on their third studio album, Plastic Surgery Disasters, and is 30 years old.  30 YEARS!!  Yet, the lyrics are just as apropos today as they were then.

Since the nimrods who actually do the work of integrating these selections onto the KROQ web page keep replacing my video picks with their OWN selection (because I picked some where the only video image is the lyrics- heaven forbid!), I picked a video where someone married footage of actual riots with the song.Watch the video here.

Perry Farrell’s birthday is today.  What have you gotten him?  I got him this video that he and his band performed live in 2003. As always, he’s filled with awesome energy and they sound great together.

Wait – what’s that?  You got him a pair of socks and a tie?  Nice.Watch the video here.

the-cult

The Cult is arguably one of the best ROQ bands ever.  They never cranked out any bullshit, never went the full on ballad (read: bigger money and easier to play LIVE), and with songs like this really blew the doors off of all the boring crap of their time.

This particular video is the original mix and is a lot more raw than the ultimate finished product.Watch the video here.

Here’s a great Roq flashback fer ya, Los Angeles.  There be some good shots of Hollywood from a couple decades ago in this video.  Someone alert VINTAGE LOS ANGELES over on Facebook.Watch the video here.

Having thrown up some 360 songs here at KROQ.com over the past year and a half or so it still amazes me how many more great ones I have to choose from and haven’t played yet.  Like this one!  Happy Monday.Watch the video here.
