De-evolution was in full effect on Friday at the Hollywood Park Racetrack as New Wave pioneers Devo performed for an estimated crowd of around 3,500 Spuds. It seemed as if the North Park Lawn had been converted into Spudland with most of the crowd proudly donning the band’s signature red and blue energy domes, as well as their newly released wrestling masks.
The mostly original lineup of Gerald Casale, Mark Mothersbaugh, Bob “Bob 1″ Mothersbaugh, Bob “Bob 2″ Casale, and tour drummer Jeff Friedl (filling in for regular drummer Josh Freese) performed in front of a massive LED display playing synchronized video clips reminiscent of their 1982 tour.
