Listen Live to KROQ

Year after year after year I recall going to work the Monday following the GRAMMYs and talking about how once again, alt-rock was snubbed, yet again. But this year, I feel like we had some bright spots worth talking about. Foo Fighters, Adele, Skrillex and Bon Iver made me feel like our voices are at last being heard. (Although Adele is now considered a world-wide sensation, she was first embraced by alt-rock radio.)

Foo Fighters taking home a whopping five GRAMMYs is pretty frickin’ huge.

As the band accepted the award for Best Rock Performance, Dave had this to say before they dimmed the lights on him;

“To me this award means a lot because it shows that the human element of making music is what’s most important. Singing into a microphone, learning to play an instrument and learning to do your craft, that’s the most important thing for people to do. It’s not about being perfect. It’s not about sounding absolutely correct. It’s not about what goes on in a computer. It’s about what goes on in here (placing his hand on his heart) and what goes on here (pointing at his head). Long live rock `n’ roll!”

Now, I think a lot of people are confused by Dave’s comments since less than a hour later he was playing side by side with Deadmau5, a DJ/Producer that creates all of his music on the computer. Regardless, this year’s awards felt fresher than they have in years. I’m glad they paired the two on stage.

If you are a mid-to-late twenty-something and grew up in Southern California, Bush was one of those permanent musical fixtures on the radio when you were a teenager, namely KROQ. Of course, girls had a crush on Gavin Rossdale, the healthier, less-tortured British version of the American grunge god. And dudes were into the big, brash grunge guitars and the masculine, gravelly vocals.

Last night at the Grammy Museum, Rossdale, drummer Robin Goodridge, lead guitarist, Chris Traynor, and bassist Corey Britz played a semi-acoustic set for KROQ and some of our lucky listeners as their softer, jazzier incarnation–SHUSH.

A handful of this year’s biggest GRAMMY nominees are no stranger to the Ed Sullivan Theater stage.

Live On Letterman has welcomed nominees such asAdele,Foo Fighters,Coldplay,Taylor Swift and more to perform a full-length concert webcast that (in our opinion) serve as the best criteria for judging them GRAMMY winners or not. Let us know what you think – watch each performance and let us know which of the performers deserve a GRAMMY!

A few days back, the rock world got itself in a frenzy over an unconfirmed tweet that Van Halen is scheduled to perform at this year’s Grammy Nominations Concert. The concert, which is scheduled for November 30th, will feature the controversial rock band’s most recent lineup consisting of Eddie Van Halen, David Lee Roth, Alex Van Halen, and Eddie’s 20-year-old son Wolfgang on bass.

Although the tweet from the official Grammy twitter feed doesn’t explicitly state Van Halen will be “reuniting,” it’s clear what it entails: “Who do u predict the reuniting band will be @ #GRAMMYnoms? Does this hint make u wanna ‘Jump’ & ‘Dance the Night Away’?”

Barring the possibility that we’re all idiots, which in my case is very possible, I think it’s a safe bet Van Halen will be rocking the Nokia Live Theater in downtown Los Angeles at the end of this month.  With that in mind, I ask what bands you would like to see make amends and get back together?  This may more difficult than you think considering Stone Temple Pilots, Blink-182, The Smashing Pumpkins and Soundgarden all have reunited within the past couple of years.
