“It’s exciting,” Joy told KROQ DJ Kat Corbett at the 2017 KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas concert. “It’s all done now, so I feel like really relaxed going into Christmas. Just being like, oh, I’m on top of that pile of songs now, so it’s all done, hard work and I can enjoy it.”

The singer went on to detail the single, “Lay It on Me,” and how it came together.

“I wrote that song with (producer/songwriter) Dave Bassett in Malibu, and we recorded it at his house. Good memories.

“I did five songs produced by Dave Bassett, and a few in Seattle, and then a few in the Catskills in upstate New York,” Joy shared. “I’m really happy with all the songs. We traveled around a bit and did it song by song. It was a long slog.”
