“It’s weird, you know. When you’re actually writing music and recording it, you don’t actually think of the outside world at all,” shared singer Alex Kapranos. “You’re in a room with your pals, and you’re having a good time, you can go ‘ah, listen to this one. This is great, this puts me in a really good mood.’ And then suddenly when you finish it, you think, OK, we’re going to take it to the rest of the world now. I think pressure is the wrong word. When asked if Franz Ferdinand’s success has exceeded Kapranos’ expectations, the singer shared a simple anecdote.

“Well, when we first did our first single, ‘Darts of Pleasure,’ I hoped that we would maybe sell 500 copies of the single, because I’d never done that in a band before. So yes, it’s exceeded our expectations.”
