The Most Uplifting Songs According to Science… and Us

Do you have a song that you hear and it just makes you feel good? Yeah, those songs are out there. We found an article in The Telegraph listing The 10 Most Uplifting Songs According to Science and we had to talk about it.

Dr. Jacob Jolij, a cognitive neuroscientist the University of Groningen in Holland, used “The Feel Good Song Formula,” to come up with the conclusion that Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now” was the song that was most uplifting. Other songs on the list included Billie Joel’s “Uptown Girl,” Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger,” Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” and Jon Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on A Prayer.”

We thought that list was bogus of course, so we came up with our own and took calls to find out what songs you found most uplifting.

Kevin picked Bruno Mars – Uptown Funk: “To me it’s super uplifting.”

Bean picked U2 – Beautiful Day: “You hear this and you feel the world is a beautiful place.”

Allie picked Depeche Mode – Just Can’t Get Enough: “That gets me going! It makes me happy.”

Ralph picked Pico Taro – I Like Orange Juice: “How can you not be uplifted.”

Producer Dave picked Paramore – Ain’t It Fun (of course): “you sing along with a smile.”

Assistant Producer Christine picked Jimmy Eat World – The Middle: “How can you NOT feel better listening & dance party-ing to that song?!”

KROQ fans  had some interesting songs. Courtney in Redlands said Limp Bizkit’s Break Stuff “just instantly makes you feel so much better.”

Of course, we didn’t accept everybody’s suggestion.
