According to Wikipedia, “Escapism is the avoidance of unpleasant, boring, arduous, scary, or banal aspects of daily life.” In laymen’s terms, it means to escape the bullshit and if you are reading this, it means you are alive in the year 2016 which has had no shortage of bulls–t, which is precisely why I am a big fan of adventure.
I like life and the only way to live it and survive, is by getting out and taking advantage of what it has to offer. We live in Los Angeles, this place is one huge fantasy land where everybody with a Peter Pan complex can prance around from one good time to another.
This weekend I went to Descanso Gardens to check out Enchanted: Forest of Light. It is an interactive, nighttime experience. Basically it’s a one mile walk through a trippy light show set in a forest which is like being in the movie Avatar but at night and with booze. The booze is optional.
I went after a very rare rainstorm had hit and the temperature outside was somewhere between nippy and “holy s–t, I should have worn a different bra.”
I don’t want to give too much away, I would be depriving you of your own unique experience, but if Alice In Wonderland and Tinkerbell got super stoned and went to visit their hobbit friends in an electric daisy rain forest that was equal parts haunted and equal parts magical, then you would get the general idea.
There is one part called The Symphony of Oaks where you can manipulate sound that echoes throughout a color changing fort of oak trees. There is a walk along a dark path that leads to a chandelier hanging midair underneath the stars, there’s a foggy lake that looks like the Loch Ness monster is at a rave…it’s whimsical, it’s psychedelic, it’s interactive, it’s new age, it is bad ass. I want to live there. I MUST find a way to live there.
So, grab a group of your favorite friends, bundle up, and go experience the eye trip that is Enchanted. There’s a bar to greet you at the entrance, two spots to grab yummy bites along the path, and photo ops galore. You’ll be the most popular kid on Instagram and your Snapchat story will be the stuff of legends.
Seriously, it’s awesome. It’s a family friendly stoner’s paradise. Cue Kanye West’s “All of the Lights” right about now.
Descanso is located just minutes from Los Angeles near the city of Glendale. Tickets are $28 (general); $24 (seniors 65 and older and children 3 to 17); children 2 and younger enter free.
