Over it’s 15-year run as an entertainment anchor inside the footprint of Downtown Disney, the Anaheim House of Blues closed it‘s doors in late May much the same way it opened in 2001. Enlisting the help of hometown outfit LIT, the band held one last party before officially bidding adieu to the location nestled in the Mouse’s backyard. Though bittersweet, news of greener pastures in close proximity gave local music fans something to look forward to. House of Blues Anaheim wasn’t done, just changing, doubling in size, and as the first location built in 10 years, this new facility was poised to be state-of-the-art.

While the November timeline that was initially established continued to get pushed, news hit this morning of the venue’s opening that better detailed all the work going on behind the scenes. Cementing the opening date of February 28th, 2017, this brand new 2,200-person performance hall will be christened by none other than Social Distortion. Punk rock icon and Southern California ambassador Mike Ness spoke about the grand opening. “We are excited that we have been asked to open the new House of Blues Anaheim. We’ve performed at the House of Blues across the country many times over, but this is a special honor because it’s Orange County, our living room.”

In addition to Social Distortion’s first two nights, the new House of Blues Anaheim will host a star-studded roster of talent in its first few months, featuring performances from Billy Idol, Wu-Tang Clan, The Damned, Korn, Death Cab For Cutie, 311, Yellowcard’s Final Show, The Kills, Thrice, The Growlers, and The Pixies to name a few. Complimenting top tier troubadours the new 40,000 square footprint at Anaheim’s GardenWalk promises to offer the ultimate in entertainment and ambiance. Boasting venues within the venue, the main room will hold 2,200 concertgoers, with an additional space, The Parish, offering a more intimate music experience with a concert hall for 400. For a more VIP environment, the lore of the Foundation Room returns in a big way with a plush, exclusive 175-person experience all in addition to the restaurant at House of Blues which continues to fuse music, soulful cuisine, and stylish libations.

Tickets are set to go on sale for the grand opening of the new House of Blues Anaheim this Saturday (November 19th) and while it’s early, it’s safe to say that this will be the hottest of tickets. With more shows to be announced, the initial schedule is already shaping up to quickly invigorate the landscape of live music in not just Orange County, but Southern California as a whole. Prior to closing, the Downtown Disney location spent 15 years and some 4,000-plus events establishing their legacy as a live music haven. The second incarnation promises to have all the amenities that come with brand new digs, while retaining the soul synonymous with House of Blues.

February can’t come fast enough.
