A great weekend for new music, not as mammoth as last week but still a lot of quality releases from Taking Back Sunday, Against Me! Die Antwoord, Preoccupations (formerly Viet Cong), Kishi BashiYoung Guns and locals Bad Suns & Deap Vally!

First up is the Long Island emo-alt-punk rockers Taking Back Sunday with their newest release, Tidal Wave. The band hopes this seventh album follows in the success of their previous 2014 release, Happiness Is, which garnered mass critical acclaim.

Taking Back Sunday has long been one of the faces of the genre since they blasted on the scene with the 2002 release, Tell All Your Friends.  The newest album has released three tracks to wet the appetite, “Death Wolf” “You Can’t Look Back” & the title track, “Tidal Wave.” Taking Back Sunday returns to LA Thurs Oct. 20th at the Fonda,  a show which is close to selling out.

Rock punkers Against Me! return with Shape Shift with MeThe album is the follow up to 2014’s highly acclaimed Transgender Dysphoria Blues which made the Top 15 Albums of the Year for Rolling Stone, TIME, SPIN, Consequence of Sound and many more. The album dove into the issues facing the transgender community lead singer Laura Jane Grace faced.

The band has dropped three singles so far for the album, “Haunting, Haunted, Haunts” was released part of Adult Swim Singles, “Crash” and “333.” The band will be in town Friday Nov. 4th at the Palladium with Bad Religion.

The South African rave-rap explosion, Die Antwoord, return fully armed as usual with Mount Ninji and Da Nice Time Kid, the group’s third original album. It comes on the heels of their mixtape, Suck On This, which was released earlier this year.

Since their last full studio album, Ninja and Yolandi Visser have starred in the major film, Neill Blomkamp’s “Chappie” furthering their world take-over. Singles released so far include “We Have Candy” “Fat Faded F***face” & “Banana Brain.” They’ll bring the ruckus next week into LA Thurs Sept 22nd at the Palladium & into the O.C. Fri Sept 23rd at the Observatory. If you buy the new album at Amoeba Hollywood, you’ll get a free ticket to catch them on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday!

The band formerly known as Viet Cong phoenix into their new name, Preoccupations, after criticism over insensitivity of the previous name.  The Canadian post-punk industrial rockers, hot off FYF Fest, have released three singles from the upcoming self-titled album, “Memory” “Degraded” and “Anxiety” the haunting video of which is below.

The band’s release from last year, Viet Cong, earned high praise from NME and Stereogum – both of which put the album in their Top 50 of the Year.  They return to LA Fri Oct 28th at the Roxy.

Kishi Bashi is the experimental multi-instrumental indie pop project of Jupiter One’s & Of Montreal’s Kaoru Ishibashi. Singles “Can’t Let Go, Juno” “Say Yeah” & “Hey Big Star” have been dropped off the upcoming album, Sonderlust.

Though he was just in town performing a live score (which he wrote) to the film premiere of Red Bull’s 4k documentary “The Fourth Phase“, he’ll return to the Belasco Mon. Oct 24th.

UK rock band, Young Guns release their anticipated fourth album, Echoes, after a long summer on the Vans Warped Tour. The London group has released “Bulletproof” & “Mad World” as early teaser tracks.

L.A. locals, Bad Suns, release Disappear Here after previewing the album with the title track – which got KROQ airplay on Locals Only. Their previous 2014 effort, Language & Perspective, was named one of Huffington Post’s Best of the Year. The alt-rock group will be in the O.C. Wed Oct 19th at the Observatory which will be your only opportunity to check them out in the area as their tour closing show at the Teragram Ballroom in LA is Sold Out!

Deap Vally, also showed off their new tunes on KROQ’s Locals Only in anticipation of their newest release, Femejism. The group is currently on tour after snagging an incredible spot opening for the Red Hot Chili Peppers on a massive world tour.

The Silver Lake multi-genre rock attack have slipped out singles “Smile More” “Royal Jelly” “Gonnawanna” & most recently “Little Baby Beauty Queen” to hype the new album. Between the RHCP gig and being selected onto FIFA 16’s soundtrack with the track “Grunge Bond,” the future looks real bright for Deap Vally.
