Australian band Empire of the Sun – comprised of Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore – dropped by The Kevin & Bean Show earlier this morning to world premiere their new song “High and Low” off their recently-announced forthcoming album Two Vines. The album was co-produced by Peter Mayes and features contributions by Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham, Wendy Melvoin, and Bowie collaborators Henry Hey and Tim Lefebvre.

Steele and Littlemore talk with Bean and Allie about the new single, collaborating with Lindsey Buckingham on Two Vines, the pressures of creating new music, working in Hawaii, and more.

“It was about this girl I knew when I was a kid called Alice D who was kind of a wild child. She did all kinds of crazy things,” Littlemore says about the new song. “There’s an Australian film called ‘The Year My Voice Broke,’ I don’t know if you’re familiar with it, but there’s a girl in that that kind of lives a mysterious life. We wanted to write a song that captured the innocence and bravery of youth, and being a teenager, and having these kind of experiences where you throw caution to the wind and you try things for the first time.”
