Drake’s Dad Stars in Arkells Video ‘Drake’s Dad’

After Canadian band Arkells ran into Drake’s Dad in a bar, they were inspired to write a song.

By Robyn Collins

As Fountains of Wayne proclaimed in the 2003 hit “Stacy’s Mom,” “Stacy’s mom has got it going on.” So, apparently, has Drake’s Dad.

After Canadian band Arkells bumped into Drake’s Dad (aka Dennis Graham), in a bar somewhere in Memphis last year, the only thing they could think of doing was write a song.

Arkells tells the story with direct lyrics, vibey percussion and hook-filled melodies. The video follows the band’s journey from Memphis to Nashville, TN, capturing some of the highlights of each city. Drake’s dad, a musician himself, looks pretty swanky in his suit and hat.

The video opens with the caption, “The following is based on a true story.”

Arkells’ new album, Morning Report, is scheduled for release August 5.
