Almost Acoustic Christmas: Photos, recaps, interviews, and more!

Twenty years ago, Pennywise bass player Jason Thirsk passed away at the age of 27 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His untimely death shook the band, friends, family, and fans alike.

Earlier this morning, Pennywise front man Jim Lindberg took to social media to recall a chilling dream he had about Thirsk just days after his passing.

20 years ago today we lost Jason. He came to me in a dream a couple days later. It wasn’t a normal dream, it felt like it was completely real. We were standing in front of the Mira Costa high school auditorium. He gave me a look that said, “Sorry, I screwed up. It was a mistake.” I said “It’s Ok. Everyone loves you, Jason.” Then I walked him into the auditorium and everyone we ever knew was in there, and when we came in they all stood up and applauded and gave him a standing ovation and showed him how much they loved and appreciated him. And he smiled and accepted it, and then he kind of faded away saying he had to go now. When he was gone, I sat up in bed and told my wife that Jason was just here. We had his funeral the next day. I don’t know what to believe in this life but I believe that dream had some kind of meaning. I’ve heard other people have had similar experiences with the recently departed. 20 years later his spirit still lives. RIP 20 JMT.

One of the band’s most popular songs, “Bro Hymn,” was originally a tribute song written by Thirsk about 3 of his friends.¬†After his passing, the band rerecorded the song to include Thirsk and released it as “Bro Hymn Tribute.”

Rest in peace, Jason Matthew Thirsk.
