The track will be included on the band's 12th album 'The Serenity of Suffering.'

Korn guitarist Munky bursts from the floorboards, second guitarist Head crashes through cement, vocalist Jonathan Davis emerges screaming from an old leaf-filled bathtub and the other two band members make similarly dramatic entrances in the band’s video for “Rotting in Vein,” the first song from Korn’s upcoming album The Serenity of Suffering, which is set to be released on October 21st.

The song is reminiscent of the classic, rumbling fare of Life is Peachy (1996) and Follow the Leader  (1998) and the angst is equally old-school nu-metal. As with many Korn creations, “Rotting in Vein” is enhanced by otherworldly guitar effects, a deep, dark groove and Davis’ demonic scat vocals. And the lyrics are suitably bleak:  “Digging Deep inside of me/ Getting Past this agony/ I can’t seem to get away/ Another day rotting in Vein,” Davis sings in the chorus as downtuned, distorted guitars and circular bass lines swarm around him like angry wasps.”

“‘Rotting in Vain’ was written about being in that black place, being in situations that I don’t like in life – be it relationships, or feeling when you’re stuck and you’re just being abused or you don’t like where you’re at, and you just sit there and rot,” Davis told Rolling Stone. “It takes you years and years to figure out how to claw your way out. That’s where ‘Rotting in Vain’ came from. I’m just sitting there, f—ing dying and letting it happen for years and years and not helping myself to get out of that place. That’s the vibe that inspired the song.”

The Serenity of Suffering, Korn’s 12th studio release, is scheduled for release October 21. The album was produced by Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Deftones) and includes an appearance by Slipknot vocalist Corey Taylor. Korn are out this summer with Rob Zombie on the Return of the Dreads Tour, which runs through September 3 in Bristow, Virginia. This fall they’ll go out again with Breaking Benjamin on the Nocturnal Underground tour.
