The Red Hot Chili Peppers were forced to cancel their set at KROQ Weenie Roast 2016 Saturday night due to illness. Singer Anthony Kiedis was rushed to the hospital from the venue due to complications from the intestinal flu. Kiedis is expected to make a full recovery soon.
The band (minus Kiedis) made the announcement before Weezer took the stage. “Anthony is on his way to the hospital right now and we are unable to play this evening,” said Flea. “We are devastated about it. We’re really sad. We love you so much. We live to rock. We live to f**king dig deep into the depths of our hearts and rock. Unfortunately, there’s a medical thing that happened and he needed to deal with it. So, we’re unable to play tonight. We will be playing for you very soon, and we will play for you like the feral animals full of love that we are… we’re so sorry.”
Drummer Chad Smith also took to Twitter later Saturday evening to express the band’s disappointment.
Weezer stepped up and performed some extra songs to help fill in and close the show, sending fans off with their Blue Album classics “Buddy Holly” and “Say It Ain’t So.”
We wish Anthony a speedy and healthy recovery.
