22-year old British musician Jake Bugg stopped by the Red Bull Sound Space at KROQ earlier this week to perform his new single “Gimme The Love” and 2013’s “Lightning Bolt,” plus he spoke to us about his forthcoming album On My One.
“Previously I’d said that the material on this new record would be darker, but things change over time,” says Bugg. “There’s still a couple of songs that have a dark element to it, but I kind of just went to a few different places on this record and tried things out. I feel like there’s a few different genres in the mix. There’s a bit of soul element, a little bit of a dancy element – like there’s a few synth keyboards – very subtle things that you wouldn’t pin down to those genres specifically, but they’re in there.”
“The 2 songs I put out are very different, but they don’t really reflect anything off the record because every song is kind of different within itself. I don’t think if you pulled any song out individually it would reflect what the album is,” he says. “I didn’t work with any co-writers on this record. It was a very solitary experience, but I think it was an important one. I felt like it helped me improve as a writer.”
Jake Bugg’s forthcoming album On My One is out June 17th. Pre-order it here.
