Pregame.com’s RJ Bell Gives Us His NFL Week 1 Picks

Author: Chip
The return of NFL just may be the best time of the year, and Week 1 is finally upon us. Our friend RJ Bell from Pregame.com was less than happy with the Steelers’ perfomance last night against the Patriots, but he still came on this morning to give us his picks for the weekend.

By the way, last year he went an impressive (26-13) with his picks on our show. Kevin, of course, tried to get RJ to guarantee his record would be better this year. RJ admitted that there’s maybe a 5% chance of that happening.

And “Boo Patriots”, right? On to the picks!

Underdog Special: Tennessee Titans +3 over Tampa Bay Buccaneers

These were the worst two teams in the NFL last season. However, there seems to be some optimism for Tennessee, with one bettor projecting the team to make the playoffs this season. Playing at home is usually an advantage, but Tampa Bay has lost 9 straight home games.

Best Bet: San Diego Chargers -3 over Detroit Lions

This spread makes it looks like this game is evenly matched, but the Lions struggle hard on the road. Since 2006, they are (26-44) against the spread on the road, and QB Matt Stafford is (0-18) on the road against teams that had a winning record the previous year. San Diego tends to have hot starts to their seasons, and are especially successful in out of division games.

Big Game (Monday Night Football): San Francisco 49ers +2.5 over Minnesota Vikings

The public has a strong betting bias against the 49ers, due to losing Coach Harbaugh and many key players in the offseason, while there is a huge bias betting for the Vikings. Going back to 1989, the 49ers are 36-12 against the spread when playing on Monday night.
