What’s better than directing an amazing music video for Walk the Moon? Having it video nominated for Best Rock Video at the MTV Video Music Awards.
Josh Forbes, who co-directed the band’s video for “Shut Up and Dance,” thought so too—until he learned that he wasn’t being given a ticket to attend the awards show this Sunday.
Of course, Forbes was more than welcome to attend the VMAs, but he’d have to fork out his own money for tickets. And, according to the director, nose-bleed seats go for $450 and premium orchestra seats start at $800.
“The band gets comp’d but the director doesn’t, which is just weird because I heard that the venue has like seven thousand seats, said Forbes in an interview with KROQ’s Kevin & Bean.
His solution? Forbes created a GoFundMe page to help raise the funds to get him to the VMAs. In just 11 days, Forbes not only reached his funding goal but surpassed it by more than a thousand dollars, of which he’ll donate to charity.
Forbes now has tickets and he’s done a good deed. But there is one potential downside.
“Josh, you know there’s no way that you’re going to win now. You know that right?,” joked Bean. “Realistically, you’ve slapped MTV in the face—you’ve embarrassed them—there’t no way they’re gonna vote for you now.”
We’re all under the heavy man-bun of Hozier,” quipped Forbes about the singer/songwriter who’s expected to clean up at this year’s VMAs. “It doesn’t really matter. We all live in his shadow.”
