The Neighbourhood World Premiere New Song “R.I.P. 2 My Youth” on Kevin & Bean

LA natives The Neighbourhood stopped by The Kevin & Bean Show to help world premiere their brand new track “R.I.P. 2 My Youth” off their forthcoming sophomore album Wiped Out, due out October 30th via Columbia Records.

On ‘RIP 2 My Youth’

“To be honest I think the lyrics kind of describe it the best. I think just hearing it is probably the best way to explain it,” says frontman Jesse Rutherford.

“I feel like it could really go for all of us as far as what has happened in our life in the past couple years and the awesome opportunities we’ve been able to have. I think kind of reflecting back on it – growing up per se, whether you want to or not. Sometimes your youth – some people have it taken away from them earlier and some people get to wait a little longer before you have to grow up, but either way the world kind of hits you.”

On Recording ‘Wiped Out’

“Making decisions with people all together is a challenge no matter what. We’re really close, we really love each other, and I think we respect each other’s opinions but even with that being said, agreeing on one product to put out, especially creatively and musically is a lot to do sometimes. We’re all opinionated little bitches so it’s hard for us to agree on stuff sometimes.”

“We’ve been going 12 to 12 Monday to Friday,” adds bassist Mikey Margott. “Ideally we’d get more time but we’ve just been busy mixing and making the album. We were only going to be in there for like a month, but it would have been nice to have 2 months and still do 12 to 12.”

What exactly does the band consider to be a successful album?

“Just being heard among all the noise that goes on in music,” says Rutherford. “There’s so much stuff that happens and I feel like every 2 weeks something happens that’s like ‘Well here’s the thing to check out’ so I think when we went into the album we wanted to write an album that was going to be solid that you listen to as a project and whether you pick it up the first day it comes out or 6 months after it comes out, when you get to listen to the body of work it’s like ‘whoa that’s a complete body.’ We’re about to go on tour again – we’re going on this tour called The Flood. We’re bringing our friends along and that’s going to be really fun. Just to be able to do that is a really exciting thing.”
