It’s been a long time—try four years—between albums and a lot has happened for Death Cab for Cutie in that time—most notably the departure of guitarist Chris Walla.
Now, interested parties can hear the fruits of that labor—Kintsugi, the band’s new album, is available to stream a week ahead of its official release via NPR.
Kintsugi is the first Death Cab album not produced by Walla, instead opting for Rich Costey behind the board. Still, Walla contributed his usual parts to the record, though his separation from the group is official now that it’s out.
The release of the album was preceded by a handful of singles, including lead single “Black Sun.”
In an interview with Radio.com, the band discussed the transition to a Walla-less Death Cab.
