The art of the bar mitzvah video has been elevated to a whole new and entirely hilarious level, thanks to Brody Criz and his family.
In a clip entitled “Mitzvah Fantasy” that’s been uploaded to YouTube, Criz’s video invite finds the young man and a cast of family and friends running through elaborate parodies of hit songs by Pharrell Williams, John Legend, Lorde, Robin Thicke and more.
The songs have been rewritten to reflect their religious heritage, including the chorus to Pharrell’s “Happy” being changed from “because I’m happy” to “because I’m Jewish/Clap along if you feel like the Old Testament is the truth,” complete with cheery displays of public dancing.
The mood switches to dramatic black-and-white footage for Criz’s version of John Legend’s “All of Me.” Criz then dons a curly black wig for his take on Lorde’s “Royals,” updated as “Spoiled.”
