Kid Rock: ‘Rap Rock Turned Out to Be Pretty Gay’

Kid Rock has set the tone for the promotion of his upcoming album First Kiss via an op-ed in England’s Guardian where he shares his views on politics, guns, homophobia, money and the rap-rock scene that elevated him to stardom.

“Rap-rock was what people wanted at the time, and they still love those songs at shows,” he wrote. “But it turned into a lot of bulls— and it turned out to be pretty gay”—though he went without mentioning the names of any other bands from that late ’90s scene.

Then he qualifies his usage of the term “gay,” saying, “If someone says you can’t say ‘gay’ like that you tell them to go f— themselves. You’re not going to get anything politically correct out of me.”

That last point was certainly true: earlier in his op-ed, he shares his feelings on both homophobia and abortion, noting his political affiliation and also pointing out that he is now a man of the cloth.
