Staples Center To Host Four Playoff Games In Four Days

The Lakers may not be in the NBA playoffs this year, but that doesn’t mean Staples Center will be vacant this off season. In fact, the “other” LA teams have taken front and center.

Let’s start with the NBA. The Clippers, long a bottom dweller in the league, started their most recent renaissance in the 09′ – 10′ season with the drafting of Blake Griffin. Two years later, point guard Chris Paul was traded to the Clippers from the New Orleans Hornets, igniting what has become known as “Lob City.” With the signing of championship winning head coach Doc Rivers of the Boston Celtics last year, the Clippers are now legitimate title contenders (and after Monday’s 122 – 105 beat-down of the OKC Thunder in the opening game of the series, they look every bit the part).

The NHL is doing it’s best to keep Staples Center busy as well. The Kings won the Stanley Cup in 2011, their first ever in franchise history. The 2012- 13 season was cut short by a player lockout, and the Kings failed to defend their crown. However, they’re back in the playoffs this year and have been the talk of the NHL after overcoming a 3 games to 0 deficit in the first round against rivals, the San Jose Sharks, becoming just the fourth team in NHL history to do so.

Their opponents in the second round? None other than the Anaheim Ducks, who also happen to be having a spectacular season themselves after having the most points in the west with 116, just one behind the Boston Bruin’s league best 117 points. The Kings, however, are riding high on their first round comeback and have taken a 2 – 0 series lead, and that’s before they’ve even played on their home ice. Can the Ducks rally?

Combined, these two series mean four playoff games in the next four days starting Thursday! Here’s a breakdown of the schedule:

  • Thursday, May 8th at 7:00 pm: Anaheim Ducks @ Kings, Game 3 (Kings lead 2 – 0)
  • Friday, May 9th at 7:30 pm: Oklahoma City Thunder @ Clippers Game 3
  • Saturday, May 10th at 6:30 pm: Anaheim Ducks @ Kings, Game 4
  • Sunday, May 11th at 12:30 pm: Oklahoma City Thunder @ Clippers, Game 4
