Metallica unveiled their new track “The Lords of Summer,” in front of an excited Colombian crowd last night marking their first new music since 2008’s Death Magnetic. (Watch a fan shot video below).

In addition to the new 8-minute track, the band’s set was otherwise filled with song requests. The band’s current tour is being hailed the Metallica by Request Tour where fans program the concerts by voting on the setlist of 17 songs from a possible 140. Sadly for U.S. fans, the tour is only scheduled to hit South America, Europe and Canada.

“We promised our fans we’d play a new song and we’ve been writing and creating away,” Metallica‘s Lars Ulrich told Rolling Stone last week. “We have something lined up that is fairly representative of where our creative headspace is at right now.”
