Music For Relief is responding to Typhoon Haiyan to provide immediate relief to the 12 million people who have been impacted by the storm, which has caused flooding, landslides and massive destruction.  Southern California bands LINKIN PARK, THE OFFSPRING, and BAD RELIGION have joined forces to stage an intimate concert event to be held on Saturday January 11th at Club Nokia in Los Angeles, with more special guests to be announced.

As an incentive to those outside the LA area, fans have the opportunity to donate a minimum of $10 to win special VIP tickets plus airfare and hotel. Visit for details.

MFR is partnering with International Medical Corps on the ground to immediately deliver critical medicines and emergency medical services with an emphasis on water, sanitation and disease prevention efforts.  Due to contaminated water, there is a high risk of infectious disease outbreaks throughout storm-affected areas.

In an interview this morning with Kevin and Bean, Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda explained why he chose to work with International Medical Corps: “One of the main reasons we partnered with International Medical Corps is that they’re a first responder. They have people everywhere. Thousands of people all over the world that are basically already living in places like the Philippines. They had people there before the natural disaster. And then now, as you said…sometimes people’s attention spans are really short. Well, these guys are long-term relief providers.”

Music For Relief was founded by Linkin Park, and is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing aid to victims of natural disasters and the prevention of such disasters.  Since its inception in 2005, Music for Relief has raised over $5 million for survivors of multiple disasters across four continents including the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, hurricane Katrina, China’s Wenchuan earthquake, a cholera outbreak in Zimbabwe, and the 2011 earthquake & tsunami in Japan. Music for Relief also supports environmental programs as a means of disaster risk mitigation including the planting of over 1 million trees to help reduce global warming.  The organization was recognized by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon for the Download to Donate program to raise funds and awareness in the aftermath of the Haiti earthquake.  Music for Relief supports clean energy solutions through the Power the World campaign.

Linkin Park will not be the only band to play the show. Offspring will also be joining, as well as a bunch of other unconfirmed artists.  “We’re still locking in a bunch of people,” said Shinoda. “We’re talking to a bunch more people and hopefully we can announce those soon for you guys. But, in the meantime, I think the two bands alone are a pretty good show.”
