If Ron Burgunday Says ‘Buy A Dodge,’ You Buy A Dodge

It’s hard to tell why the automotive industry feels they need a celebrity endorsement to sell their cars. Do golfers buy Buicks because Tiger Woods tells them to? Did Robert Downey Jr.‘s voice really help Nissan move Altimas? Do Porn Star loving Sex Addicts buy Fiats, just because Charlie Sheen drives an Abarth through his living room?  The answer to these question most-likely is no… until now.

Dodge didn’t turn to a golfer or actor for an endorsement when it came to their new Durango. They opted for the help of a fictional news anchor; San Diego’s very own Ron Burgundy.

Will Ferrell and Dodge have teamed and created 70 commercials promoting the new SUV and movie, Anchorman: The Legend Continues in what is turning out to be up for quite possibly be the best series of commercials ever.

According to AdAge, Durango sales are up 50% for the year and Edmunds analyst Michelle Krebs said shopping for the Durango “soared on Edmunds.com after the ads launched.”

Looks like these new batch of ads aren’t just a viral sensation, they may be a really effective advertising that results in moving units.
