There’s a good chance you’ve heard of the Red Bull Flugtag but maybe you’re not quite sure what it is. Well, imagine 28 teams of inventors making man-powered flying machines launching themselves off a dock in Long Beach in an attempt to fly the farthest before crashing into the cold ocean water 30 feet below. Celebrity judges rate flights based on three important criteria: Distance – this is a flying contest after all; Creativity of craft – we like to reward genius; And showmanship – standing ovations are always good. The American record for furthest flight of 207 feet. Let’s see if one of the teams can break it.
The teams will be judged by our own KROQ’s Kevin, along with our friend Carson Daly, freestyle motor-x champ Robbie Maddison, Comedy Central’s The Workaholics and… oh God… we almost forgot, David fricken Hasselhof will also be a judge this Saturday. Imagine Kevin sitting next to The Hof. This will be good times for sure.
Kevin has the hook up on VIP Flight Club passes to the Red Bull Flutag this Saturday in Long Beach. The Flight Club offers the the best viewing on the entire waterfront. And, when Red Bull calls something VIP, they mean it. Listen to KROQ for your chance to win and dial 1 800 520-1067 when you hear the cue.
Flugtag, which means “flying day” in German, is landing at Long Beach’s Rainbow Harbor on Saturday, September 21st.
Free to attend, the hangars open at 10:00 a.m. and the last flight of the day is at 3:00 p.m. Last year’s event in the LBC drew in excess of 75,000 so we suggest you get there early.
