Almost Acoustic Christmas: Photos, recaps, interviews, and more!

By the time emo punk-poppers Fall Out Boy famously embarked on an extended hiatus in 2009, the band’s wildfire popularity of the mid-‘00s had cooled to smoldering ember. Their 2008 album, Folie à Deux, garnered a muted reception from fans in comparison to previous albums, such as 2007 release Infinity on High, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

Fall Out Boy was also dealing with growing internal tensions. Bassist Pete Wentz had become a tabloid celebrity, in no small part due to his then-marriage to pop star Ashlee Simpson (“I was high on being Pete Wentz,” he told Rolling Stone. “Now I understand how I was overshadowing the band, especially Patrick.”). The group wasn’t connecting onstage or with fans during the tour for Folie à Deux, all of which lead singer Patrick Stump to insist that they go on hiatus.

“He sat us down and said, ‘If we don’t take a break we’re going to break up,'” said drummer Andy Hurley about the hiatus. “He also said, ‘We’ll hate each other and never want to do this again.’”

With the individual members striking out on various solo projects and outside ventures, that hiatus stretched over three difficult years before Wentz and Stump reached out to each other and started writing songs together again.

That initial spark led to the band regrouping to record Save Rock and Roll, a potent return to form that has been enthusiastically received by their huge legion of fans (it debuted at No. 1, selling 154,000 copies it its first week of release), making Fall Out Boy’s current reunion the rock comeback story of the year.

With the band following a sold-out theater tour in the spring with a full-blown arena jaunt this fall, Fall Out Boy will be performing at exclusive show in the intimate confines of the Red Bull Sound Space at KROQ on Wednesday, June 12 at 3pm PT/6pm ET.

While fans in the Los Angeles area can still win tickets to the special concert, everyone will be able to tune in and watch the rock and roll action live via an online webcast as it happens via webcast beamed directly to your digital device.

Don’t miss this exclusive and intimate live Fall Out Boy experience!
