Almost Acoustic Christmas: Photos, recaps, interviews, and more!

Originally scheduled to debut Thursday, June 6, new Nine Inch Nails song “Came Back Haunted” leaked online one day early, ending the bands five year hiatus.

KROQ’s Nicole Alvarez premiered the track Wednesday night (June 5).

The track harkens back to classic NIN, infused with the energy of the band’s legendary 1989 debut, Pretty Hate Machine bolstered with the epic scope of the 1994 follow-up, The Downward Spiral.

Buzzing synthesizers and a hard, rolling bass line propel the decidedly industrial rock song, with Reznor’s distinctive vocals cutting through the dense maelstrom, screaming “I don’t believe it/I had to see it/I came back haunted” throughout the arena-sized chorus.

“I love it,” gushed KROQ music director, Lisa Worden. “It’s the return of Nine Inch Nails that fans have been waiting for. If this song is any indication, the new album is going to be amazing.”

The night before the song’s release (June 5), the official Nine Inch Nails Tweeted out a message that suggests a September 3 release date for the band’s new album, with the title Hesitation Marks. The Tweet also referred to “Halo 28,” with Halo numbers being “the numbers assigned to pieces of the Nine Inch Nails discography in the order that they are released.” This new upcoming NIN album will be the 28th Halo release (2007 full-length The Slip is No. 27).

News of a new song sent shockwaves throughout the music community, still reeling from Trent Reznor’s unexpected announcement of a new, full length album coming in 2013. The singer/songwriter admitted he had been “less than honest” about what he’d been up to lately.

“For the last year I’ve been secretly working non-stop with Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder on a new, full-length Nine Inch Nails record, which I am happy to say is finished and frankly f****** great.”

For the latest incarnation of Nine Inch Nails Reznor has surrounded himself with Adrian Belew, Alessandro Cortini, Josh Eustis and Robin Finck, who recently replaced a departed Eric Avery (formerly of Jane’s Addiction).

Today plans were also unveiled for “Nine Inch Nails: Tension 2013” – a fall 2013 North American arena tour.  “Tension picks up where Lights in the Sky left off,” said Reznor in a press release. ” This is the full-on NIN live experience realized as we never could before.”

The run will launch on September 28 at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, MN and include shows at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY (October 14) and Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA (November 8).

Tickets for the arena outing will go on sale to the public beginning Friday, June 14, at See below for itinerary and specific on sale dates. Fans who register at will receive exclusive first access to tickets before they go on sale to the general public.
