Check Out Big Black Delta’s Amazing Video For “Side Of The Road”

Los Angeles’ Big Black Delta have a name that could be reminiscent of a blues band from a backwater bayou, but they churn out sexy and shadowy synth-pop that gives a delightful nod to masters like Depeche Mode and plays nice with computerized compatriots M83.

The lo-fi tech-pop brainchild of Jonathan Bates of Mellowdrone, Big Black Delta were featured on KROQ’s Locals Only recently and host Kat Corbett calls their newest video for “Side of the Road” (and them) “bitchin.”

The video starts with minimalist black-and-white graphics. A figure, presumably Bates, prances out wearing light goggles and begins to dance, taking off his jacket and continuing joyfully. Big Black Delta appears onscreen and the dynamically-graphic video continues back-and-forth with that imagery in one amazing contrast between light and dark, melancholy and joy.

Big Black Delta’s self-titled début album is out on April 30th through Fontana. Check out the band’s website for more info.
