Almost Acoustic Christmas: Photos, recaps, interviews, and more!

Lead singer Yannis Philippakis and guitarist Jimmy Smith of breakout British band Foals made a desert pit-stop at the KROQ Coachella Party House for an exclusive performance and interview, where the band’s lead singer revealed himself to be a big fan of classic hip-hop.

Philippakis talked about how a friend put Wu-Tang Clan song “C.R.E.A.M.” on a mixtape for him when he was a kid, turning him into a fan for life of the revered rap collective. The singer also discussed the time his mom made him return a tape by politically-charged rapper KRS-1 when he was just 10 years old.

The pair (joined by drummer Jack Bevan on the shaker) stuck around long enough to play a few songs for the lucky people able to get into the backyard set at the KROQ Coachella Party House. Opening with a simmering version of recent single “My Number,” followed by “Moon,” which Philippakis called “the most harrowing song we’ve ever written.”

Foals incendiary third studio album, Holy Fire, was released in February of this year.
