Almost Acoustic Christmas: Photos, recaps, interviews, and more!

For those that were scared Goldenvoice’s popular Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival was on the outs with the city of Indio, don’t worry; you’ll be able to don feathers, neon, and whimsical hot pants for the next 17 years.

On Wednesday, Indio approved a proposal by Goldenvoice  to continue operations while also expanding the festivities into the city proper. Monetarily, this is a great move for the Indio economy.

Not only does the city receive $2.33 per ticket (with the number increasing to $5.01 next year), but the Los Angeles Times is reporting that the combined force of Coachella and Stagecoach contributed to created an economic impact of around $89.21 million dollars. They receive $1,385,196 million in revenue from Goldenvoice.

With a majority vote from the city council, Goldenvoice will also have the ability to put on concerts in the fall although there are no definite plans in the works. The proposal sets the stage for Goldenvoice to increase its concert offerings from three events per year to five. According to local newspaper Desert Sun, Mayor Pro Tem Mike Wilson said of the proposal, “What a historical moment. In the 16 years I’ve been sitting at this dais…I’ve sat up here and have had few historical moments. There’s nothing negative I can say tonight.”

Further indication of Indio’s open arms is its new moniker, “city of festivals” and its new website art featuring a guitar amplifier.

The festival has boasted major headlining acts since its 1999 inception, including Prince, Arcade Fire, Radiohead, Kanye West, The Black Keys, and the hologram ghost of Tupac. This year’s Coachella, taking place April 13-16 and 20-23, includes headliners Blur, The Stone Roses, Phoenix, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Postal Service and more.
