Almost Acoustic Christmas: Photos, recaps, interviews, and more!
"I couldn’t believe it had been overlooked when I discovered it cause it’s such a beautiful thing to me."

This Christmas, Aaron Bruno’s friends and family can expect one very special gift.

The AWOLNATION frontman told CBS Local he will be buying everyone he loves Rodriguez’s 1970 album, Cold Fact.

Rodriguez was a mystery to many until recently. The folk singer, who spoke about growing up poor in Michigan, sold horribly in the U.S, while being revered in South Africa and Australia. He released two albums in his short career to great reviews, but it was rumored that he committed suicide in the ’70s. After two fans started searching for details into his death it was revealed that Rodriguez was living in Michigan working as a day laborer.

Their journey to find the singer became the topic of a recent documentary, Searching for Sugar Man, which took a closer look at the man who had become a myth and didn’t even know it.

Bruno was lucky enough to discover Rodriguez’s music a few years ago.

“To me, he has my favorite lyrics of any one record in the history of time,” he explained. “And that’s a lot for me to say cause I care a lot about that stuff.”

Though his album is still considered a cult hit, Bruno hopes by passing this record onto others, more people will realize what they’re missing.

“I couldn’t believe it had been overlooked when I discovered it cause it’s such a beautiful thing to me,” he said.

Bruno’s also hoping his many mentions of the folk singer haven’t gone unnoticed by the Sugar Man himself.

“This is like the 20th interview I’ve spoken about this,” he said. “So I hope he realizes that I’m promoting his record really well.”
