While ex-Hole frontwoman Courtney Love recently calmed fans’ fears by squashing rumors of an alleged Nirvana-based Broadway musical, it has been announced that a documentary film on the legendary Seattle grunge band is in the early stages of development, with a Rolling Stones director already attached to the project.

“Courtney is the one that brought me into this,” said director Brett Morgan to the New York Post about the Nirvana doc while promoting his current movie, Crossfire Hurricane, an HBO documentary on the Rolling Stones. “We’ve been trying to find the right time to put this film together and the time is now… Kurt was not only an amazing songwriter and musician, he was an incredible artist and filmmaker. So we are going to do the movie sort of like a third-person autobiography — [as] if Kurt was around and making a film about his life.”

Nirvana’s fateful 1989 European tour is the focus of a new photo-driven e-book of previously unseen images of Kurt Cobain and company recently released by Bruce Pavitt, the owner and founder of Nirvana’s original label Sub Pop.
