I’ve been fortunate enough to attend far more than my fare share of motorsports events and I have to say, the NHRA Full Throttle Winternationals at the Auto Club Raceway in Pomona is one of the single best events for fans, period.
First off, nowhere, except for a nuclear explosion will you feel this kind of sonic intensity. And, at NHRA, there’s no risk of growing an extra thumb from radioactivity. Secondly, the drivers and their cars are all accessible to fans. Say for example you’re a fan of Larry Dixon or Scott Massey, there’s nothing stopping you from walking right up and shaking their hands as they disassemble and reassemble their cars after each race.
The pits at Pomona have recently grown even larger and vending areas now offer nearly everything a fan could desire; from commemorative apparel to tools to replica die-cast models.
Winternationals is a super fun event whether you attend with a group of drinking buddies or the whole family, kids and all.
There are a few ticket options to consider. General admission, reserved seats and the holy grail of NHRA tickets; the Top Eliminator Club. I’ve personally spent time in every section and I can say that there are no bad seats on the track. The speed and thrill of a car traveling at 300+ mph is fun no matter where you’re sitting. Although tickets are available at the door, it’s always a safe bet to secure them in advance, which you can do right here.
Ray, one of our past KROQ VIP-package winners, sent us a note to say thank you after his experience. “The walk through the pits was a lot of fun. It was a great day. You put the icing on the cake when we were brought down to the track level at the Starting Line. This is where the dragsters were rolled out, fired up just inches from us where we were blown away as the ground rumbled beneath our feet. Truly Awesome!”
Stop by the KROQ booth on Sunday to say hi. We’ll be located near Nitro Alley, where you’ll find the big sponsors.
